I spent this past weekend at my college reunion. Even all these years later, I am dazzled by so many of my classmates -- smart, engaging and lovely women. Some random thoughts about the weekend.
- We've all aged pretty well. I have a "reunion theory" about this -- my theory is that those who are unhappy with their present state stay home. (Except guys, but I went to a women's college, so not applicable.) It's an untested theory though.
- While some of my classmates are working and have never considered staying home and others happily left the paid work force, many of my classmates desire a balance between working and home. That said, many had trouble finding flexibility in corporate America despite claims of "family friendliness."
- It felt like Rhinebeck -- so many people to catch up with, so little time. But that same feeling of camaraderie. I desire a SPA-like reunion with a smaller number of people.
- My husband continues to rock. It was about 95 degrees on Sunday and he showed up at our alumnae parade with water and cups. He's a keeper.
- I talked about knitting and spinning several times throughout the weekend -- always greeted with "cool."
- I love the ease in which my best friend and I just pick up where we left off despite the fact that she lives in Pittsburgh, I live in Boston and we don't see each other in person very often. So comfortable.
- Nine of my college friends attended my wedding in 1992 -- I got to catch up with six of them last weekend and I have plans to see the other three this summer. Some of my friends I had not seen in a long time -- I adore these women and need to find a way to be better in touch.
- I was inspired by the big vibrant pack from the Class of 1948 -- all dressed in white and marching in the parade. Think about it -- they started college during World War II.
What a wonderful time! I think you are right about the reunion theory. And yeah, your husband DOES rock. What a guy!

I'm so glad you had a great time. I haven't been to a Wheaton reunion - isn't that terrible?

Wellesley Rocks! I'm reunion-ing next year! I was lucky enough to have a mini-reunion last year - a large group of us took over a private school where one of my Wellesley classmates works. It was just as you wrote in your post.
(BTW, despite being a Wellesley alum, I'm an idiot. I forgot to order your brown 220 in my latest Cascade order. I'm sorry!)

awesome. I have my high school reunion this fall. a friend recently told me, while visiting Brooklyn, she saw lots of SAHDs. That would be a lovely new trend.

I've never been to a big reunion at BU, but I did attend a smaller "SPA-like" reunion of a group of student leaders, and it was so much fun to reconnect in a nice small group.

Glad you had a good time! I didn't go to my reunion b/c we were in Germany and my hubby doesn't plan on going to his reunion this summer. I don't think we're unhappy though. That's awesome about the class of 1948!!

I think the women hold up better than the guys. Or maybe men show up regardless of how they feel about themselves. Maybe it means that guys are more comfortable with their appearance. Hmmmm.

I don't think that those of us who go to and graduate from large Unis have the same sense of camaraderie and school spirit. Don't think it is just a guy/woman thing.
1948 - My parents graduated from University and got married. My father post military service. Long time ago now.

I can't remember if my mum went to a Wellesley reunion this year or not but she was class of '54!
