Afghan! My grandmother was accomplished in all needle-arts. She was a shy woman (my description; other family members might describe her as anti-social) who took solace in her creative work. She was college-educated and a "working woman" which was very atypical for her generation (she passed away 10 years ago and would have been 92 this year). One of my memories is of her sitting in the passenger side of the car and either knitting or crocheting while my grandfather drove - not well, I may add. She was always, always was working on a project. The picture is of an afghan that she made for me when I was a girl. Each granny square has a three-dimensional rose. The afghan now adorns the end of my daughter's bed. Often, when I now take long road trips with my husband and kids, I think of them. And, luckily, I have all of my grandmother's needles.
Wow! Can you even imagine how long it took to do those roses? It's wonderful that you've kept it in such great condition. What wonderful memories to have, too.
Funny, I just posted an afghan in similar colors, too. No roses for the VIP, though! I hadn't thought of the ABC-along, though. Hmmmmm.

It's really great that you have something she made to remind you of her. That afghan is really beautiful!

Having that kind of heirloom is wonderful. It is truly a treasure, and something that keeps her immortal.

What a great afghan! And how nice to know that you've inherited your skills from your Grandma. That's really special!
